Everyone here at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport would like to congratulate the whole of Team GB and Paralympics GB for their fantastic efforts in securing 47 and 102 medals respectively at the Beijing Olympics. This is an historic and truly inspirational achievement. Team GB and Paralympics GB’s success has captivated the nation as we now look forward to the Games coming to London in 2012!
We are the lead Government department for the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
We are working closely with our key stakeholders – the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, the Olympic Delivery Authority, the Mayor of London and the British Olympic Association – other Government departments and relevant bodies in the nations and regions to deliver the best games ever and to ensure that the 2012 Games leave a lasting legacy and create maximum benefits for London and the UK as a whole.
