Consultation On Children's Play Review

In October 2002 the Government announced a review of children's play opportunities to inform spending of the £200m lottery funding through the New Opportunities Fund (NOF). The review will run until Spring 2003 and is jointly sponsored by DCMS and DFES, who will be working closely with NOF and other Government Departments. The NOF programme will be UK wide and covers children 0-16. Like other NOF programmes the review will consider areas of disadvantage and groups of children with limited play opportunities.

The 1993 and 1998 Lottery Acts set down the framework within which the UK National Lottery is operated and established the National Lottery Commission to license and regulate the operator. Following the publication of the Gambling Review Body's report and the Government's response - A safe bet for success - and the publication of the NAO report into the award of the last licence, Government is reviewing the structure of licensing and regulation.
