Review of the National Maritime Museum

As part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's programme of reviews, it is currently undertaking a review of the National Maritime Museum (NMM).

This Consultation is now closed.

It is a requirement of good Government that the bodies it funds should be reviewed every five years. The review will be comprehensive and wide-ranging and is intended to examine how the NMM has performed in the past and review its role and functions and how those functions can best be carried out.

It will consider and comment on the NMM's aims and objectives for the next few years, review the efficiency and effectiveness of the way in which it delivers its services and make recommendations for their future development and management.

Individuals and organisations with an interest in the NMM are invited to make known their views. In particular, the Department would welcome views on the following topics:

• the purposes, aims and objectives of the NMM;

• the NMM's organisation, functions and delivery mechanisms

• the efficiency and effectiveness of the NMM;

• the NMM's responsiveness and relationship with its customers;

• the NMM's partnerships and links with other organisations; and

• the NMM's use of new technology.

A consultation paper is attached with more details of how the review is being conducted, the role and functions of the NMM and the sort of questions you might consider in your response.

We appreciate that the NMM has issued several public consultation documents of its own. If you have previously submitted comments for any of these reviews which touch on any areas relevant to this consultation exercise then we would be grateful if you could provide us with details. Photocopies of previous responses will suffice to prevent any duplication of effort.

The Department aims to complete the first stage of the review by the Spring.
