Review of the National Museum of Science and Industry

As part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport's programme of reviews, it is currently undertaking a review of the National Museum of Science and Industry (NMSI), which incorporates the Science Museum, the National Railway Museum and the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

This Consultation is now closed.

It is a requirement of good Government that the bodies it funds should be reviewed every five years. The review will be comprehensive, wide-ranging and vigorous and is intended to examine how the NMSI have performed in the past and review their roles and functions and how those functions can best be carried out.

It will consider and comment on the NMSI's aims and objectives for the next few years, review the efficiency and effectiveness of the way in which they deliver their services and make recommendations for their future development and management.

Individuals and organisations with an interest in the NMSI are invited to make known their views. In particular, the Department would welcome views on the following topics:

  • the purposes, aims and objectives of the NMSI;
  • the NMSI's organisation, functions and delivery mechanisms
  • the efficiency and effectiveness of the NMSI;
  • the NMSI's responsiveness and relationship with their customers;
  • the NMSI's partnerships and links with other organisations; and
  • the NMSI's use of new technology.

A consultation paper is attached with more details of how the review is being conducted, the role and functions of the NMSI and the sorts of questions you might consider in your response..
