European Commission's proposal for the future Culture Programme 2007 – 2013

The purpose of this consultation exercise is to seek views on the European Commission's proposal for the future Culture Programme 2007 – 2013.  This is to replace the current Culture 2000 Programme which expires at the end of 2006.

This consultation has now ended. The consultation period was 10 August  - 29 October 2004

Negotiations on the new Programme will usually be conducted in Brussels in an officials working group known as the Cultural Affairs Committee (CAC).  The CAC operates within the scope of the European Commission's Directorate General for Education, Youth and Culture (DG EYAC).  DCMS officials will lead on the negotiations taking into account advice received through this consultation process.

These negotiations will begin in Autumn 2004 under the Dutch Presidency of the Council.  Ideally negotiations should be completed by the end of 2005 during the UK Presidency of the Council.

We would like to hear your views on the proposed aims of the new Programme.  These are summarised in Annex C below.  We would also welcome views on any aspects of the current Programme you feel might be relevant: however, the new proposals do address several of the perceived shortcomings of the current Programme.
