I am pleased to be able to announce to the House the creation of a unique fundraising partnership for elite sport. The partnership brings together, for the first time ever, UK Sport, the British Olympic Association and the British Paralympic Association to raise funds for elite sport, along with the London Organising Committee of the London Olympic & Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

Advertising – as Lord Saatchi put it recently – ‘is where art and commerce touch most closely.’ And it’s a real British strength. Our advertising industry is one of the flagships around the world for British creativity.

Good morning everyone; thank you Barry.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Sir Barry Cunliffe for agreeing to step in as interim chair of English Heritage in such sad circumstances. Lord Sandy Bruce-Lockhart was a very committed servant of our cultural heritage and, in my experience, a fellow believer in the power of culture to change lives. It’s a great loss to not have Sandy’s guiding hand helping to steer a course for heritage.
