After taking a number of factors into consideration including population, spectrum coverage, interest from potential providers and public interest, Ofcom has determined the first 20 locations that it expects to advertise local television licences for in 2012.

The initial 20 locations are: Belfast, Birmingham, Brighton and Hove, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Grimsby, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Nottingham, Oxford, Plymouth, Preston, Southampton and Swansea.

Further licences could subsequently be awarded in: Aberdeen, Ayr, Bangor, Barnstable, Basingstoke, Bedford, Cambridge, Carlisle, Derry/Londonderry, Dundee, Guildford, Hereford, Inverness, Kidderminster, Limavady, Luton, Maidstone, Malvern, Mold, Salisbury, Sheffield, Stoke on Trent, Stratford upon Avon and York.

The locations that will receive licences are subject to consultation by Ofcom.
