The Department for Culture, Media and Sport wishes to appoint skilled and highly committed individuals to the Board of the Olympic Lottery Distributor. The Distributor is a Non-Departmental Public Body. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute towards the Olympic Games and its legacy.
Time commitment
The time commitment for board members is approximately 8 days a year.
Location of Meetings
The Olympic Lottery Distributor is based in central London.
Remuneration
Remuneration is payable at the current rate of £209 per day, together with travelling and subsistence expenses.
Term of appointment
These board appointments are for four years to be effective from a mutually convenient date.
Closing date
The closing date for applications is Monday 8 September 2008. It is intended that interviews will be held on 22 October or the morning of 23 October.
Background
The Olympic Lottery Distributor is an independent body established under the Horserace Betting & Olympic Lottery Act 2004. The Distributor is responsible for the distribution of up to £1.8bn of National Lottery funds to support the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the associated regeneration of the Lower Lea Valley.
The Olympic Lottery Distributor funds activities that:
- directly relate to requirements incorporated in the Host City Contract
- contribute to the infrastructure and sports legacy of the Games
- contribute to the legacy that demonstrates social inclusivity
- contribute to the delivery of the Games which are low carbon, zero waste, conserve biodiversity and promote environmental awareness and partnerships.
Taking into account the skills and experience of the existing members we are particularly interested in recruiting new Board members with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- major construction and regeneration
- programme management
- regeneration and legacy planning in respect of major development schemes
- experience of widespread public engagement
All board members must have:
- a commitment to the successful delivery of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games
- an understanding of, and commitment to, equality issues
- understanding of the requirements of proper accountability for public funds.
Experience of working on a corporate or NDPB board is desirable, as is experience of working in a political environment.
